Rescue Divers Fire Department Regensburg

ENOS used by rescue divers of Fire Brigade Regensburg

ENOS in application at Governmental Fire Brigade School (SFS-R) and the Bavarian Concept for Water Rescue Operations with Helicopter (BayWaH)

The Governmental Fire Brigade School Regensburg (SFS-R) used the Electronic Rescue and Locating System ENOS during the final examination of "Fire Department Rescue Diver". For this reason the subjects jumped off a helicopter of Bavarian Concept for Water Rescue Operations with Helicopter (BayWaH).

During the trials attention was focussed mainly on 2 topics:
  1. ENOS-Beacon:
Does the housing stand the pressure and forces during the jumps off the helicopter?
Forces up to 3.1 t can occur due to the "downwash"!
  2. Performance of transmission:
Does ENOS function as reliable as usually?
Or will there be interferences caused by the radio frequencies of the kelicopter and its rotor blades?

Deliberately ENOS-Beacon was attached to the equipment of the test persons without pouch.
After a detailed briefing by the pilot several jumps were carried out off a height of 9 and 18 feet / 3 and 6 meters.
Then the Fire Brigade Fire Brigade Rescue Divers switched on ENOS-Beacon and hold it above the surface  —  as all scuba divers do.

Conclusion: ENOS-System functioned perfect and error free!
  • The power of the jumps had no impact on the housing of ENOS-Beacons
  • Evaluation of GPS positions as well as its transmission functioned reliable and quick
  • The performance of ENOS-System was not affected by the helicopter application

But there are further positive things happened this day:
All subjects of the Governmental Fire Brigade School Regensburg (SFS-R) have passed the exam! We congratulate and wish you all the very best for your professional carrer!
